Materials, Sizing & Care.
Materials.
Butones Jewelry are made from Gold-Filled, Vermeil (Real Gold Over Sterling Silver), Sterling Silver, and Rhodium Plate.
Occasionally, we also use Gold Electroplate and Stainless steel.
Gold-filled necklaces are used as it has 100x more gold portion which is thicker than a simple gold-plated jewelry. It is constructed with two or three layers with brass as the base and bonded through heat and pressure.
Vermeil necklaces are often confused with gold plating, and even though they do share a few aspects, there is a big difference in quality, durability, and desirability. Vermeil is a gold-finished material composed of gold layer over solid sterling silver instead of brass or other metals. The thickness of the gold portion is 2.5 microns and that is what sets it apart from a simple gold-plated pieces.
Gold Electroplate are occasionally used. Electroplated jewelries are made by coating one metal with thin layer of gold, typically by applying a direct electric current.
Sterling Silver used are 92.5 percent of silver alloy and mostly coated with Rhodium for durability and shine.
Rhodium Plated chains are also widely used as Rhodium is rarer than gold or platinum and whiter than silver. Rhodium plated means chains is made from a base metal alloy that is coated with thin layer of rhodium for extra strength and luster. Rhodium plating does not scratch, dent, or corrode and retains its luster.
